Ruhollah Khomeini was a man who single handedly captivated the people of Iran, against the brutal Shah. Khomeini was named Time’s Man of the Year in 1979 and also one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

Imam Khomeini was the leader of the Iranian revolution, he transformed the country of Iran, which was the most westernised country in the Middle East, to a country overwhelmed with Muslims living according to Islamic Conduct as in the time of Prophet Mohammed (a.s.)

Most of Khomeinis revolution took place whilst he was exiled, showing the amount of loyalty the people had towards Khomeini.

Khomeini strived to create an goverment which was intertwined with Islamic Sharia according to the School of Ahlulbayt (a.s.)

Khomeini believed in Muslim unity and solidarity and its spread throughout the world. “Establishing the Islamic state world-wide belong to the great goals of the revolution.” He declared the birth week of Muhammad (the week between 12th to 17th of Rabi’ al-awwal) as the Unity week. Then he declared the last Friday of Ramadan as International Day of Quds in 1979.

Despite his devotion to Islam, Khomeini also emphasised international revolutionary solidarity, expressing support for the PLO, the IRA, Cuba, and the South African anti-apartheid struggle.

In 1979 98.2% of the people of Iran voted for an Islamic Republic
